I'm in charge...

of our social calendar. I don't mind, and MWH likes it, but oops... I thought we were going to a party today. When I went to look up the directions, I realized the party was yesterday. (That's called an off-by-one error.) I'm a little sad, but mostly embarrassed by my inability to keep track of things. Yesterday, we had a lot of fun hanging with some really good friends--definitely more fun than we would have had at the party. Today we might be buying a new washing machine.

(Does any one who reads have a frontloading machine? Do you like it? We don't think our frontloader is cleaning very well.)

We don't but I've read a lot about them through all my cloth diapering research. Frontloaders use a lot less water. So often people find they don't rinse well enough (particularly for cloth diapers but for regular laundry too). Water does most of the cleaning. They are good for the environment, but when you end up needing to do extra rinse cycles to get all the detergent out it kinda loses that advantage. A simple top-loader is my much preferred choice.

By the way, you might try adding an extra rinse cycle (on warm if yours will do it) before shopping for a new one to see if that helps get your clothes cleaner. There are other advantages to front-loaders that I didn't mention. They agigtate more gently so your clothes won't wear out as quickly. They also spin faster so it cuts down on some dry time.

And, by the way, I highly, highly, highly recommend Charlie's Soap. I've been using it for a year and I absolutely love it. I don't need fabric softener anymore. It is amazing, wonderful stuff. http://www.charliesoap.com/

I've read about the advantages of frontloaders (gentler on clothes) and I know about the environment (more efficient) but stinky clothes aren't cutting it for me. If I do really small loads, it's not too bad, but I don't have time to do 18 loads a week and that's not really efficient water use (twice as many loads as normal). All of a sudden, I can't wear anything because I put it on and it smells bad to me.

(I told MWH it's either a new washing machine or all new clothes for all of us...)

I'll check out Charlie's Soap :-).

I washed two shirts by hand this morning because I wanted something NOT stinky. Sigh.

I love my front loader, I'll never go top loader again:) I find that if I use the HE soap in the proper amount there is no rinsing problem.

Sounds like your machine may have mold in it. It probably has a cleaning cycle that you can run, empty with bleach, that would help.

Also, look inside the front seal and see if a piece of clothing is sitting in there (little socks find there way into mine weekly).
